WHO CAN APPLY
Any Agama student who has completed course level 13, or who is already above that level by the end of the course cycle before the TTC starts can apply for participating in our Internal Teacher Training Course (ITTC).
Applications are discussed by Ananda Maha and a committee of advanced Agama teachers. Each student’s application is discussed in detail. Our ITTC invitations are largely based on evaluating a student’s commitment to the Agama School, the student’s Yoga practice, attitude in the classes (attending all classes instead of the bare minimum, coming on time, studying, participation in group discussions, etc.), as well as basic English language skills.
Note: Agama is not registered with Yoga Alliance. Details
ABOUT THE COURSE
A mandatory introduction meeting will be held two weeks prior to the course start date. This meeting will provide you with all necessary information and teaching materials you need to begin your practicum preparations.
The full course fee has to be paid either via our website or the registration office before the application deadline.
Like in previous years Agama offers complete and partial scholarships to those Agama students who are eligible. Scholarships are given to students who Agama strongly supports becoming teachers and to students with financial difficulties. These students will be informed clearly before the course begins, and will be refunded the full or partial tuition fee.
The ITTC program consists of several steps that need to be successfully completed in order to receive the Agama Teaching Title 1. The steps are:
1. Successful completion of the ITTC course
This is based on:
- Receiving an overall passing grade of 70% on the practical and theoretical exams
- The student’s attendance and participation in the course
- The ITTC Coordinators general evaluation of the student
IMPORTANT! If the student fails to fulfill all of the requirements of this step they will not be allowed to move on to the next step. In this case the student will be permitted to attend the ITTC course in the following year for a small administrative course fee.
2. Assisting and Supervised Teaching
When step one is fulfilled the student will be assigned to assist another teacher for one course cycle. In the end of the month the student will teach one class while being supervised by the main teacher. Based on the teacher’s evaluation of the student’s participation as an assistant and skills as a teacher he or she will receive the final certification.
It is up to Ananda Maha to make the final judgment if a student is ready to receive their certificate and graduation. It is possible that a student will be told that he or she is not ready at this time, if this is the case a plan of how the student can improve and evolve will be decided by Maha. When this has been completed the student will be assigned to teach another supervised class for a second evaluation.
3. Certification and Graduation
When step one and two has been fulfilled the student will receive their Agama Yoga Teacher Title 1. At this point the new teacher will be able to teach on and off Koh Phangan as a fully certified Agama Yoga Teacher. After paying the yearly active fee the teacher will receive all the benefits belonging to this title.
Those students who are not allowed to complete this step will not be considered official Agama Yoga Teachers.

Agama is the pioneer of Yoga on the tropical island paradise of Koh Phangan, Thailand. The school was founded on the island in 2003 by Swami Vivekananda Saraswati, a Yogi for over 30 years who has dedicated his life to teaching an authentic form of Hatha Yoga in a modern scientific approach.
Agama believes that there should be a bridge between spirituality and rational thinking, and classes are taught accordingly. The teachings are easy to implement in daily life and are often adopted immediately by students.
